| I would think twice as it is far better than Vista, just a pain you may have to drop some old programes and instal some mail software. If not go to Microsoft help on there site and it will point you back to vista hell. | |

| totally agree with damo . Vista piece of crap . I found allot of xp drivers work with win 7 . Particually on dell With intel based chipsets . If u are having problems with hardware function . E.g. Wireless lan then do a manual update . |

| Neither are as good as XP, which is shite compered to 98 SE. Media player won't let me play dvd's as I changed to region 1 and it won;t let me back in region 2, I uninstalled it and then re-instasled but this did not cure the prob! | |

| try this Right click My Computer icon >manage >system tools >device manager. In the RH column click the cd/dvd rom, right click it >uninstall
Now shutdown the puter. open up your puter and disconnect the dvd rom ribbon cable.
boot up. then run this program: CCleaner (about 10 minutes to install and run) ========= google ccleaner and install it. While it installs just untick the boxes as some you dont want.
run the cleaner in windows/applications but dont tick the bottom 11 boxes in the Windows Tab. run the registry cleaner as well, when it asks to back up the registry , allow it to do it, then clean the registry. You may have to clean the registry a few times, but you do not need to save it each time.
then shutdown and reconnect the DVDRom. Boot up and dont interfere, let windows find the Rom and install the driver. The driver region will automatically set to where you have your clock and time zone set in the sys tray.

| Apparently if you put an XP disk in the drive it gives you the option to format! | |

| if u have an xp disk & you really want to go back to this platform.
Insert disk and restart comp. Whilst booting up in will say "press any key to boot from disk"
just follow the on-screen instructions....

| i use windows 7 for all of my dj work now, but found that when i first got my new laptop that most of my hardware (external sound cards and midi controllers) wouldn't work on the 64bit version so i used the disc that came with the laptop to load the 32 bit version of windows 7 and all the problems seemed to right themselves. All is good and it a million times better then vista. | |

| very true! 64bit is a bit clitchy...
34bit is more stable, but windows will only recognise 3gb of ram with the 32bit.
so if you have a 4gb machine, 64bit is a must. They'll sort driver issues soon enough'
