| Why should we have to pay tax on something that we have already paid a tax on. There is no incentive whatsoever to try and do something with your life in this country. Everything we do now seems to be taxed unless your a banker or property developer or owe millions to the government and its about time now that everyone stand together and refuse to pay this. I see people who dont want to work and claim dole and who are getting rent allownce wont have to pay this. | |

| You can get all the violins out as much as you like. The fact is other eu countries have been paying these kind of taxes for 20yrs.Property tax;water charges;and poll tax; nobody wants to pay it,but there you go.Thats the way of the world. And it will get worse before it gets better. So burn petrol while its cheap. And enjoy life in spite of the shite it throws at you.because this aint a rehearsal. | |

| I think almost everyone has to pay it. See FAQ on the website https://www.householdcharge.ie/ I dont think that the Government has any choice in this matter. If they dont bring it in and water charges we wont get our regular bailout funding payments and will have no funds to pay civil service wages or unemployed etc etc . Up to 1977 we had rates to pay on houses and I think people paid hundreds each year on a very average house. | |

I wish I could turn back the clock to 1994 when he said that ! The world had changed a lot since that.

| I've read some very well thought out & convincing articles in relation to the household tax. As I read it is that this tax is not being written into legislation and is therefore unenforceable. It can only be enforced if we, the people, consent to it. How do we consent to it? By registering on the site you are giving your consent to the charge. I won't be registering on the site as I do not consent to the charge. - jkchambers wrote:

I have no problem (in theory) with a universal charge that is fair to all but I don't believe this is fair in any way. Why should a single person living in a one-bed apartment have to pay the same charge as a family living in a 5-bed house? Why should this person pay the same as a wealthy individual who has the ability to pay more? Yet again it's the people who do most of the work in this country, those who pay most of the taxes that are being asked to shoulder the biggest burden relative to their ability to pay. I'm no socialist but this simply isn't right.
